Jim has over 30 years of legal experience, having served on both sides of the bar, representing claimants and defendants, in both criminal and civil court, in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, Washington, East Baton Rouge, Tangipahoa, and Lafourche Parishes.

Born in New Orleans and raised in Salt Lake City, Jim returned to Louisiana to attend Loyola University School of Law after graduating from the University of Utah.  Upon graduating from Loyola Law School, he began honing his trial skills as an Assistant District Attorney in New Orleans under Harry Connick.  During that time, he developed strong litigation skills early in his career.  Upon leaving the DA’s office, Jim entered the private sector and defended corporations in civil disputes.  Until he went out on his own.

In 1996, Jim established Marchand Law Firm as a solo practice taking cases for people who had been injured by someone else’s negligence.  Over the last 22 years, he has built a solid firm.  Practicing primarily in the medical malpractice arena, and rounding out his practice with personal injury cases over the years, Jim has built a strong reputation with physicians and healthcare providers, opposing counsel, and the judges he stands before. He takes the time to understand the medicine and treatment involved with each case and comes prepared to zealously represent his client.  Jim is a lawyer who understands the merits of each case and is not afraid to take the case to trial if negotiations fail.

Jim is admitted to the State Bar of Louisiana and is admitted to practice in all Louisiana State Courts, all Louisiana U.S. District Courts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.  He is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association and the 22nd JDC Bar Association.
